National Veterans Small Business Week was November 4-8, and DroneAscent, LLC was recognized by Google on Veteran’s Day with a special edition challenge coin.
Military challenge coins have been used since World War I, and were issued to service men and women as symbols of recognition or unity.
A challenge coin is specially designed coin and given to someone to confirm membership in an organization and honors a person for a special achievement. They are made of metal and every coin has a unique design that belongs to the organization it represents. The emblem or insignia of the organization is etched directly into the coin.
In the military, challenge coins are proof that you are a member of a unit or served on a specific tour of duty. They were also used for security. A service member may have been required to show the coin to prove their loyalty and being a member of the team is still a strong military tradition. Used to award team members who perform their duties well, giving a coin as a reward for excellent performance builds pride and morale. It is an honor to get one.
The tradition of the challenge coin tradition is also to keep military members connected to one another, even after they leave the service. They pay tribute to events and people who endured together and created bond to last a lifetime.
